A third of employees worry about redundancy, study shows
The possibility of being laid off is still worrying UK employees, despite the country having emerged from recession.

This is the discovery of the Protection Gap survey from Abbey Legal Protection, which found that 31 per cent of workers fear losing their jobs due to cutbacks.

Some 42 per cent of executives in non-managerial roles said they thought redundancy is still a threat.

However, only five per cent of people in chief executive roles were found to be concerned about losing their jobs, with employee stress and its impact on their health more likely to be a key concern for these members of staff.

Abbey spokesperson Richard Candy said: "Although the wider economic environment appears to be more positive than it was this time last year, the issue of redundancy is clearly still at the forefront of employee minds."

Last month, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development's Labour Market Outlook suggested that the UK's redundancy rate could increase by 50 per cent by next spring.
