Pensions 'are the most important work perk'
Pensions have been rated as the most important perk in the workplace by a survey of employees.

The research carried out by the National Association of Pensions Funds (NAPF) found that 38 per cent rate them as the best benefit an employer can offer, more than the percentage who cited a bonus as being most important to them.

However, more than a third of those surveyed said they are concerned about having sufficient funds to last the whole of their retirement, with 26 per cent saying they would like to see a guarantee that they would not be short of pension funds before they die.

Nigel Peaple, director of policy at NAPF, said: "It is clear that people greatly value pensions. More than three-quarters value an employer more if they offer a workplace pension."

It has become clear in recent times that Britain's ageing population could be causing older generations to worry about their finances.

Indeed, insurer Prudential recently predicted that by 2019, 1.8 million people will be working past the state retirement age.
