An accountant from Hampstead is claiming for a record £40 million compensation payout after alleging that she was victimised by her former employer.
Mihaela Popa is seeking a settlement from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) after she resigned from her job in 2006, stating that workplace harassment had led to her suffering a nervous breakdown.
Since then, she has been selected for redundancy by two subsequent employers, which she claims was a result of poor references and influence exerted by PwC.
Ms Popa described her treatment at the hands of PwC as victimisation and states that she has been discriminated against because of her Romanian nationality and gender.
As a result, she is taking legal action against the firm at a tribunal in the hope of claiming the highest payout ever awarded for an employment law dispute of this kind.
This comes after Employment Law Advisory Services earlier this week called on businesses to ensure their workplace equal opportunity policies are up to date to avoid falling foul of discrimination laws outlined in the Equality Bill.
