A local authority has revealed it is set to address a loophole in its planning laws.

Councillor Herbert Manley, executive member for prosperity at Cheshire West and Chester Council, wants new sites to be introduced in the region for the travelling community.

The Northwich Guardian reports that he explained how there needs to be a full officer consideration of each site and comprehensive public consultation.

Cllr Manley said: "It is vital that we continue to address the 'loophole' in planning law by moving forward with other sites and also continuing our search for a suitable transit base."

Charlie Seward, director of regeneration and culture, also called for a more permanent site to be set up for the travelling community in the area.

Friends of the Earth's executive director Andy Atkins recently stated that any changes to planning law by central government need to have the environment at their heart.
