Ashton KCJ has been awarded the Suffolk Carbon Charter (Silver status) in recognition of our energy saving efforts. The Suffolk Carbon Charter is jointly led by Suffolk County Council and the Environment Agency, and delivered by Groundwork East of England.
The Silver Charter is awarded to companies that - in addition to implementing measures for managing and reducing energy use - have made significant progress to becoming a sustainable company by reducing their carbon footprint by 10%.
The award has also been made in recognition of the extensive work Ashton KCJ has carried out with other local businesses to promote the use of Renewable Energy among local landowners, including the use of photovoltaic (PV) solar panelling.
In addition to this, the awards panel also took into consideration our investment in green energy. In 2010, we installed an innovative heating and cooling system at our Waterfront House office in Ipswich. The system uses cold water from Ipswich Marina to cool the building, which is then returned once cleaned and filtered back to the River Orwell.
Ned Harrison commenting on behalf of the Carbon Charter panel commented:
“In awarding the Silver Level to Ashton KCJ, the panel’s decision took into account the three sites covered (Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Felixstowe). In particular, they were impressed by the reductions achieved at all three sites, and the company’s firm environmental commitment, as evidenced by the adoption of an overall 10% reduction target, and such measures as the installation of a Water Source Heat Pump.”
Alison Budge, Head of Ashton KCJ’s CSR Committee said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the Carbon Charter and would like to thank all our staff who have helped to make us one of Suffolk’s greenest businesses.”
