An initiative to raise significant funds for Ashton KCJ's two nominated charities East Anglian Children’s Hospices (EACH) Tree House Appeal and Alzheimer’s...
For each Will the firm receives instructions for, during the period 4 - 8 October, Ashton KCJ will donate £100 to either of the two charities. Potential clients are being asked to book appointments now. Ian Reed, Ashton KCJ Head of Private Client services, commented: “This is a new initiative for the firm - to emphasise the importance of making a Will whilst at the same time raising funds for two very important local charities. In addition to the donation that we are making of £100 for each completed Will, the charities will be able to claim a further £25 in gift aid relief. The ‘Good Will’ Campaign will run across all three Ashton KCJ offices – in Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Felixstowe. Those looking for a Will can send a booking request and download one of our questionnaires from www.ashtongraham.co.uk/willsweek.”
The service includes: a 30-minute personal appointment to discuss the client’s requirements; preparation of a draft Will and a letter sending it for approval and then an appointment to sign the document. Appointments will be allocated on a first come first served basis. It will therefore be advisable for clients to book as soon as possible to ensure as it is anticipated that take up will be high.
Speaking in support of Ashton KCJ’s ‘Good Will' Campaign, Mark Loades from EACH Treehouse Appeal Development added: “We are incredibly grateful to Ashton KCJ for offering its time and expertise to help us raise much-needed funds. This kind of fundraising is incredibly important to us, as one in ten children cared for by EACH, is done so as the result of a gift in a Will. The will-writing sessions will raise vital funds for the EACH Treehouse Appeal and provide peace of mind for anyone who takes the opportunity to discuss and arrange their will.” Jon Lee, Services Administrator, Alzheimer’s Society Suffolk, added: “We champion the rights of people living with dementia and the millions of people who care for them. By choosing to donate to the Alzheimer’s Society, your gift will bring expert care, support, advice and hope – as we are committed to funding vital research that one day may lead to a cure.” A recent BBC TV Panorama programme highlighted the possible pitfalls of using will writers, as opposed to solicitors – where many people never know if their will is correct until it’s too late. What emerged from the programme was that the price of a ‘cheap will’ (by will writers or DIY Wills) can easily go up during the process and that many Will writers lack training and insurance – which would pay out in the event of a problem. Those who think they might be affected by this should contact a solicitor as soon as possible.

- About EACH - East Anglia's Children's Hospices
The current EACH hospice bungalow in Ipswich is inadequate for the demands of children’s hospice care services in Suffolk and North Essex- which is why we need to move to a new premises. We have been donated a four acre woodland plot in Ipswich by a local charitable trust and the new building will allow end of life care to be delivered in greater privacy, provide more bed spaces for life-threatened children and provide private overnight accommodation for families to name but a few. The Treehouse Appeal aims to raise £3 million to build and equip the new hospice.
- About Alzheimer’s Society -
Alzheimer's Society is a membership organisation, which works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Many of its 25,000 members have personal experience of dementia, as carers, health professionals or people with dementia themselves, and their experiences help to inform the work of the society.
