Leicester City Council has paid out more than £350,000 in personal injury compensation across 61 different cases brought by employees during the last three years. According to the Leicester Mercury, this includes £50,000 which was handed to a person who developed Mesothelioma, while another member of staff got £1,200 after suffering a back injury due to lifting heavy equipment.
Brian Brookes, the authority's insurance and claims manager, stated that a full investigation is held in each case before any personal injury compensation is paid to a claimant. "Payments are only made where it is considered the council has been at fault. All other claims are refused. We currently repudiate 77 per cent of all claims," he said. Mr Brookes added that the council wins 96 per cent of the personal compensation cases in contests in court.
Marie Wallace, 64, was recently awarded thousands of pounds of personal injury compensation from Glasgow City Council after falling off a toilet bowl she was standing on to open a window, the Scotsman reported.
