Liberal Democrat MP, Martin Horwood has tabled a Private Member’s Bill in the House of Commons. The Tied Public Houses Code of Practice Bill (Bill no.160) requests the Secretary of State to introduce a statutory code of practice requiring certain breweries to provide their tied tenants with the option to sell guest beers and the option to become ‘free of tie’, (under a free of tie agreement, the landlord cannot earn income from the goods sold by the tenant), accompanied by an open market rent review.
The Bill will receive a second reading in the House of Commons in June.
