Building firm workers made redundant |
|
Date: 27 October 2011
Some 40 workers at a building firm have been informed they have been made redundant as a result of the liquidation of the company.
Employees at Trade Manufacturing Facility (TMF) of Newtown, Wales, were informed last week that their roles are no longer available, BBC News reports.
Howard Wright, of the Unite union in Newtown, told the news provider that members of staff are still waiting to be paid their wages from earlier in the month. He said: "These were not minimum wage jobs, they were quite well paid. People will find it difficult to find jobs like them in the locality." But Mr Wright pointed out the union is ensuring redundancy packages agreed with the workers meet the minimum standards.
BAE Systems recently revealed that it is going to make around 3,000 members of staff redundant, due to the fact that it needs to remain competitive in the sector because of the state of the economy.
