Jonathan Long

Jonathan is the partner who heads the firm’s agriculture & estates team and acts for landowners and farmers on a wide range of matters including:

  • Agricultural property
  • Leasehold and freehold
  • Passing on the family farm/estate to the next generation
  • Wills, trusts & partnerships
  • Footpaths
  • Tax planning
  • Diversification
  • Contract farming & similar arrangements
  • Landlord & tenant issues

    His recent experience includes:
  • The sale of around 20 acres of development land on behalf of farming clients
  • Finding a loophole in the contract for the sale of land to a household name PLC, supported by an opinion from a QC, enabling the renegotiation of the price by a six-figure sum to reflect movement in the market


    • Jonathan is a panel solicitor for Eastern Region of Tenant Farmers' Association, member of NFU and CLA, vice president of Suffolk Agricultural Association, Honorary Legal Adviser to Suffolk Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs, closely involved in and judge of BALE Award and closely involved in Suffolk FWAG. Jonathan also has a particular interest in IT as well as being the firm's IT partner he is also the Deputy Chairman of a nationwide IT user group committee.
